Housing Visions announces the closing of a construction loan for VanKeuren Square, an affordable housing development to be located at 2223 East Genesee Street in the City of Syracuse. The project will provide 50 quality housing units of permanent supportive housing for veterans.
The three story building will replace a vacant and deteriorated former community center and contain a total of 44 one-bedroom apartments and 6 two-bedroom apartments, all of which will be furnished. The building will include a community room, training and education rooms, computer lab, exercise facilities, on site laundry and a property management office. Units will be available for persons with physical disabilities and for persons with hearing or vision impairments. On site supportive services will be provided by the Syracuse Veterans Administration.
Housing Visions and the Syracuse VA have worked collaboratively for more than 5 years and have established an effective partnership in supporting veterans. The VanKeuren Square development will be a model for providing a total package of quality affordable housing and supportive services.
VanKeuren Square is within walking distance to area hospitals, colleges, schools and employment opportunities as well as commercial services and is served by the public transportation system.
The total project cost is approximately $11.4 million.
