The community is invited to a groundbreaking to mark the beginning of a bright new chapter in the Genesee Street neighborhood of the City of Lockport.
Lockport, NY – A ground breaking ceremony is scheduled to highlight the commencement of Lockport Canal Homes, a quality affordable homes project for 30 families. This project is part of a major neighborhood revitalization effort by Housing Visions, YWCA of Niagara, Lockport Neighborhood Revitalization, Inc., the City of Lockport, NYS Homes & Community Renewal and NYS Office of Temporary and Disability Assistance. Eight new buildings will be constructed and one will be substantially rehabilitated along the Genesee Street corridor to provide 30 quality affordable rental apartments.
The project will utilize green building practices and will receive the NYSERDA Energy Star Labeled Homes designation upon completion. Features include energy star labeled appliances and lighting, water conserving fixtures, hardwood and ceramic flooring, washer and dryer hookups, central air conditioning, fiber cement siding, energy efficient fiberglass windows, and high insulation values. The project will revitalize the community with its refreshing aesthetics and professional property management.
Lockport Canal Homes is utilizing the following funding sources: $5.8 million in Equity from Enterprise Community Investment, Inc. is leveraged through $811,564 in Low Income Housing Tax Credits; $1.7 million from the NYS Housing Trust Fund; $1 million in Homeless Housing and Assistance Program funding from the NYS Office of Temporary and Disability Assistance and a loan for $40,000 from the City of Lockport. KeyBank is providing $3.2 million in Construction Financing.
